There are a number of different ski passes available in Val Thorens. Prices vary according to your age, group size, duration, the area(s) you wish to ski and the time of year. Planning ahead can help you make the most of your Val Thorens ski holiday and hopefully save you some money too. However, if you are planning on having lessons, then it is also worth checking with your ski school beforehand to be sure that you buy the correct pass for your classes.

3 Valleys ski-passes (Full area)

The  3 Valleys is the largest linked ski area in the world and anyone of intermediate ability and above usually takes advantage of the full area 3 Valleys Pass. It offers unlimited access to 160 lifts, 600kms of piste and 7 resorts: Meribel/Mottaret, Courchevel, La Tania, Val Thorens, Les Menuires/St Martin de Belleville, Orelle and Brides Les Bains. You don't have to be an expert to ski the 3 Valleys as there are plenty of greens and blues across the area to allow any level of skier or boarder to enjoy it.

Premium Pass
As a slight variation to the standard 3 Valleys ski pass, in Val Thorens, you can pay a €50 supplement to upgrade your  6 or 7 day 3V pass to a Premium Pass. This enhanced version of the area pass includes a number of leisure and relaxation advantages that are only available in the Belleville Valley. For example: 1 descent on each of the toboggan runs in Les Menuires (the Speedmountain rail toboggan and the Roc'n bob toboggan run); 1 toboggan descent in Val Thorens (excluding evening sessions); a Spa & Leisure Pack which includes 4 entries to the Les Menuires and Val Thorens sports centres and the Aqua-Fun centre in Les Bruyères; 1 activity per day in the above mentioned sports centres (including gym, sauna, jacuzzi, trampolines, racquet sports, swimming & fitness classes). Please note that Premium Passes can only be sent by mail (no extra cost), they cannot be collected in resort at the automatic vending points.

Ski Areas in Val Thorens

Val Thorens Valley ski-passes (Local area)

There are two local area passes to choose from:

Val Thorens-Orelle
The Val Thorens local area pass which covers 150km of piste offers plenty for the beginner skiers and those intermediate skiers who are content to explore the top end of the valley.

Vallee de Belleville
For those that want to explore further, but not perhaps the whole of the 3 Valleys area, then the Vallee de Belleville pass covers the entire valley from Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville at the bottom of the valley to the Val Thorens local area at the top of the valley. Only available for 1-day or the whole season.

Ski Areas in Val Thorens

Group ski-passes

Both the full area 3 Valleys Pass and the local area and Val Thorens/Orelle passes offer discounts for groups of two or more people skiing together. So, if you're skiing as a pair or in a group of three+, then save money by purchasing a Duo or a Tribu ski pass. To qualify for this offer, all the passes must be for the same ski area and duration (6 days or more) and bought together online in one payment.

Family Ski Passes

If you're skiing as a family, then you can also benefit from specific discounts on both the full area and local area passes. The Family Pass option lets everyone pay the child's rate as long as there is a minimum of 2 adults + 2 children (aged 5-17 yrs) purchasing passes. However, for larger families, you can include a maximum of 7 children on the one pass for the same price per person.

To benefit from the discount at least 4 identical ski passes must be bought online in one transaction. Proof of age will be requested for children and seniors, either at the moment of sale or in resort, and don't forget that the under 5's ski for free. Ages on the first day of skiing are taken into account and each member of the family will also require their own hands free pass.

Beginners ski-passes

Beginners can move up from using the free drag lift and magic carpets, to a pass that is available for morning, afternoon and one day durations - prices are 50% less than standard passes. Three beginners sectors are available using the beginner pass:

Plein Sud
Castor & Pollux: two twin covered 240m long moving carpets - free access; Cairn gondola - access with a beginners ski pass 

Péclet
Musaraigne and Campagnols: two 200m long moving carpets, in series, right at the heart of La Grenouillère - free access; Roc drag lift - free access; Two Lacs - access with a beginners ski pass

Beginner Ski Areas in Val Thorens

Snowpark passes

In Val Thorens and Les Menuires there are two different snowparks which you have access to with either a local area or a Three Valleys pass. The Three Valleys pass also includes the family park in Courchevel, plus two more snowparks in Meribel - the DC Area 43 park and the Elements park, plus the Plattieres boardercross.

Discounted ski-passes

Early and late season
If you visit Val Thorens in the first 2 or the very last week of the season, you will benefit from reduced rates on your lift pass. However, depending on snowfall, this is potentially accompanied by a reduced ski area.

Weekend Specials
Whether you are skiing alone or with friends you can benefit from discounted rates if you only ski at the weekend. On a Saturday, you can save up to 20% on the normal day pass price (offer available on both local and full area passes) and there is also a reduced rate on 2 day Three Valley passes for weekend skiers. Both of these offers can only be purchased online so you will also need to have a hands free card to recharge. The slopes are often quieter at weekends as many people are just arriving or leaving, so it’s a good time to enjoy shorter lift queues and less piste-traffic.

Free passes

Under 5's and over 75's can use the lifts for free, whether on foot or on skis in the 3 valleys. Proof of age will be required at the point of sale and a photo is also required - these can be taken at the ticket office in resort. Although the pass is technically free you'll need to pay 3 euros for a hands free card to access the lifts. 

There is free access to 1 drag-lift and 4 magic carpets for beginners.

Cross-country ski-passes

All of the cross country ski itineraries in and around Val Thorens are free to use. Visit the Tourist Office to pick up a map showing you where to find them and the level of difficulty.

Season passes

Season passes are available for the three key ski areas; Val Thorens/Orelle, the Belleville Valley and the full 3 Valleys area. These passes always require a photo and there are discounts of up to 20% on the public rates if purchased before 1st December 2020.  Duo, Trio & Family rates are also available.

Holders of the full 3 Valley season and annual passes also benefit from a reciprocal agreement with several prestigious ski resorts around the world. Get a free 3 day pass for Shiga Kogen, Japan; Mount Buller Australia; Los Tres Valles, Chile and Zermatt, Switzerland; as well as 3 free 2 days passes for Vail Resorts in the USA. Likewise, if you have a valid season pass for any of the aforementioned ski domains, then you can enjoy a free 3 day pass for the 3 Valleys area.

Pedestrian passes

Pedestrian rates are available for single and return journeys on certain lifts, as well as for 1 day and 6 day pass durations should you want to ride the lifts more frequently. There are 11 lifts that pedestrians can use in the winter: Peclet Funitel, Cairn & Caron gondolas, Cime Caron cable car, 3 Vallées Funitel, Grand Font Funitel, Rosael chair lift and the 3 Vallées Express gondola in Orelle. Pedestrians can also ascend on the Moutière, Cascades and Pionniers chair lifts and descend on foot.

3 Vallées Liberté
If you are a regular skier in Val Thorens and the 3 Valleys then the 3 Vallées Liberté card may be of interest to you. Anyone that skis at least 8 (non-consecutive) days a season can benefit from the total freedom to ski whenever they want without having to pass by the ticket office each time. Payment is debited directly from your bank account after you have enjoyed your day on the slopes and you can check your account on-line anytime.  The more you ski, the greater the reductions you can accumulate (10% - 15%) and your 9th ski day is free (then each 6th day after that).
