Conditions are looking good for Easter weekend

Mostly blue skies & sunshine this week

There have been some very happy guests staying in the resort so far this week, since Saturday it has been blue sky and sunshine all day every day. This weekend it actually looks like there is more snow due which should provide a nice top up for the last few weeks of the season.

It turns out that snow reports are actually harder to write when conditions are good. So we can recommend that the best areas in the Three Valleys to ski at the moment are…all of it! The pistes are holding up amazingly well considering that we are heading towards April. Whilst there are grassy sections appearing at the very edges of the slopes in resorts with lower altitude, the pistes themselves are still in tiptop condition.

If you are wanting to avoid the crowds then maybe try Mont Vallon which is tucked in just over the back of Val Thorens in the Meribel valley. If you manage to arrive around lunch time you should pretty much have the place to yourselves. There is just the choice or red runs or red runs from the top but you will have fantastic long ski down afterwards. It’s a great area to spend your time and just keep looping round with one lift and you can be back over to Val Thorens for après.

The new lift over in St Martin also makes this another area worth a visit for a few laps on Jerusalem and Pramint. You will be sure to be whisked back up on the St Martin Express this year rather than left dangling on the slightly unreliable old lift.

Generally the feel of spring skiing can be felt all over the resort with most people making the most of the morning to get the miles under the skis before heading to a terrace or balcony to finish the ski day.

As mentioned, the weather did take a turn today however there was a fantastic sea of cloud for those who managed to venture up to Cime Caron at 3,200m. Below that however it was not the best visibility for most of the day. It does look set to clear again tomorrow with light snow arriving on Friday afternoon. This weekend could be busier than usual in resort for Easter which is looking clear with snow arriving on Tuesday.

The ‘Championnats de France Ski Alpin’ is also taking place this weekend which is already under way in Les Menuires. You can witness some of France’s best skiers in downhill, slalom and giant slalom. The course is easily visible from afar which has been set out for the past week at the top of Mont de la Chambre. Parking areas have also been reserved so if you are arriving in Les Menuires to stay this weekend then be prepared for more traffic than usual.

Forecasts for the week ahead.
