Val Thorens Snow Report: 26th March 2015

A little more fresh snow overnight..

featured in Snow report Author Gemma Hunt, Val Thorens Reporter Updated

The temperatures have really dropped as the week has progressed and I’ve had to dig my vest back out brr! The really good news is that we had fresh snow overnight! Even as low as 1400m where there was a little sprinkling and more snow falling higher up. What started as rain and turned into snow by the evening which was great to see at this time in the season.

The snow clouds are still lingering and this morning at the highest point in Val Thorens you could seek out some blue sky above the grey cloudy day below. There is yet more snow forecast for the early hours of tomorrow morning, Saturday evening, Sunday and Monday! If it arrives it will be a lovely end of season surprise before the Easter holidays commence.

At the beginning of this week I headed over to Meribel for the ‘DC Invasion’ which was a fab event and has continued throughout the week. I was lucky enough to see Torah Bright showing the locals how it was done on the half pipe, just awesome. There were lots of big names over for the event and great après to be had too if you skied over that way from VT.

At the moment, the snow first thing is still really great and as temperatures are cooler it’s much chillier on lifts if you manage to make anywhere near first lift. I have enjoyed some really great runs and the slopes are really deserted so you can make the most of the great conditions.

On a less positive note, unfortunately I have heard of a Chalet apartment break in this week, which is never nice to hear. There was a spate a few seasons ago of the area being targeted by someone just checking for unlocked apartments. If someone answered the door the person just said that they were looking for ‘Chalet Mont Blanc’. I doubt it’s the same thing this time round but just be aware and keep everything locked up even if you are at home, just to be on the safe side.

There are now just three weeks left of the season for the lower resorts of St Martin and Les Menuires which should end on a busy note with UK school holidays coming up on the calendar. Val Thorens however has a good month of skiing left in its’ mountains yet! There are some great deals to be had if you think it’s not quite time that you packed your skis away until next season…
