With more fresh snow overnight the season is far from over

Another dump of snow last night & great conditions

Anyone still in the Three Valleys on holiday or any seasonnaires who have not quite finished yet have had an end of season treat! With fresh snow at the weekend and a nice dump last night, it is definitely not time to pack away the skis just yet. Fresh tracks excitement is being posted all over the web just when people thought the season was done and dusted.

Today is an absolute bluebird after a few days of cloud, rain, snow and a massive storm, things have certainly cleared up for the better. A definite time for setting the alarm for first lift and skiing as high as possible to reach the ‘good stuff’.

The lifts in lower resorts such as St Martin are still running but the pistes back to resort are a little sketchy. I understand there are only around five runs closed up in Les Menuires and Val Thorens still has the green light a go-go for all the area.

Today started off nicely chilly preserving the fresh snow but temperatures are rising and the BBQ's will surely be being lit this afternoon. At this time in the season a lot of restaurants do start to close or offer a limited menu so just be aware when you are out and about. We managed to get a reservation on Saturday evening for the last service at Jardin Josephine in St Martin which was great. I have only eaten there once before in the summer and loved it so was eager to give it a try in the winter too.

The restaurant is located just next to the more well-known Le Montagnard in St Martin and is a much smaller restaurant. The interior is really fresh and they manage to fit in a large number of tables into the relatively small interior. I would say they can seat around 50 people however each table is nicely situated away from the next. The staff are really friendly and the food was great. We ordered a mix of cheese and meat raclette which were delicious, how could you go wrong with that really!  Dessert was unfortunately out of the question after that indulgence however the ones that were served to others looked fab. A definite recommend and also one you can ski into for lunch during the winter. Maybe a little too late to find out about this one however keep it in mind for next season.

In addition to the good conditions, another bonus for those still in resort is that the shops all tend to have ‘destockage’ which means cheap ski stuff! There are still great bargains to be had and who can resist a new pair of skis, boots, pants, jacket, goggles, glove, hats, you can never have too many, it is the ski rule.

Temperatures seem to be on the up over the next few days with a slight dip on Sunday when there is yet more snow due. Whilst Val Thorens is open until 8 May this year, I understand that next season they shall be cutting the season back to the end of April which I do not think should effect too many holidaymakers, there is still five full months of ski time here!

Well all that talk of snow is making me chilly so now it is time to change into my shorts and take advantage of the sun that is shining forcefully onto the balcony you have got to love April in the mountains. Bon après midi!
