Courchevel is only a 1h40 drive from Chambery and a 2h 20 drive from Grenoble Airport. You could hire a car, but with so many transfer companies running shuttles to the resort, why not take it easy and let someone else do the work?
Even if Geneva is the most convenient airport when travelling to Val Thorens, it’s not the nearest one. There are other airports that offer shorter transfer times, however, they also present a few drawbacks.
The closest airport to Val Thorens is Chambery, a little over 120km from the centre of resort. While it’s faster to get to Val Thorens from Chambery (around 1h40), flights are generally more expensive and rarer, as they are usually tour operator charters.

The average price of a one-way shared transfer from Geneva to Val Thorens starts at around €50, going up to €450 for a private transfer. From other airports, most Val Thorens ski transfers are on a private basis, with a one-way starting at around €250. If you’re after something a bit fancier and most definitely faster, the sky can literally be the limit with a private helicopter luxury transfer taking off from €2,200.

These tend to be cheaper, although you might have to wait a little while before your bus leaves (typically not more than an hour).
If your transfer is a door-to-door service, you may also have to wait for other passengers to be dropped off in resort. On the plus side, you'll get to discover parts of Val Thorens you didn't know existed.
You or your group travel alone.
With this type of transfer, there's no waiting around. You can leave the airport as soon as you've cleared customs. The down side is that this is a much more expensive way to travel, and private transfers are not always available.
Using public transport can help keep the costs down on your trip to Val Thorens. However, it can take considerably longer than a shared or private transfer as buses usually stop several times along the way and you may need to make a connection in Moutiers, the nearest transport hub in the area.
Public bus transfers run from the airports to Val Thorens in the winter season, especially during weekends. They usually stop at Moutiers, the closest train station to Val Thorens and where Eurostar ski trains from London St Pancras stop, before heading up to resort.
Public transport lines travel between Moutiers and Val Thorens a couple of times per day in summer and winter, stopping in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Les Menuires along the way. The Moutiers to Val Thorens bus transfer time is around 1h15.
