Winding Down in Val Thorens
It ain't over 'till it's over....
Well, mountain and snow lovers…we are now into April and Val Thorens is relaxing into the end of what has been a fantastic season!
With over 6.5 metres of snow since December, we had even more over the last week or so making for an unbelievable powder day on Easter Monday! And even better news - the pistes will stay open until the 12th May so there is still plenty of time left for anyone itching for a last minute ski getaway…!
Over the next month, the resort will slowly start winding down but there are still various activities and events in place for all of you spring time holiday makers…
DYNAFIT LEOPARD SNOW TRACK – open for anyone interested in a first outing on touring skis or for those who are a little more experienced, a fun walk up to Chalet de la Marine at sundown for a tasty vin chaud and traditional onion soup. Next dates are 18th and 25th April – reservation required (price : 20€).
This week is Easter week in resort and there is all sorts of entertainment on for both children and adults alike…Easter egg hunts, ice sculpture demonstrations with French champion Nicolas Gombert, jazz & classical musical concerts and a chance to win a giant chocolate egg if you guess its weight correctly!
3 VALLEES ENDURO contest on 7th April – this rally course has become the largest ski competition in the world with over 1,500 participants of different ability levels (professionals, amateurs and families).
The course lasts all day and is scattered over different areas throughout the 3 Valleys ski area where competitors are able to discover parts of all 8 different resorts; Courchevel, La Tania, Méribel, Brides-les-Bains, Les Menuires, Saint Martin de Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle.

On 13th April, don’t miss the FRENCH SKI SLOPESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIP…jumps, grabs, rails and every kind of trick you can imagine – impressive skills which are really worth a watch if you get the chance. The competition will be held at the Snowpark from 9.30am with two rounds of qualifiers in the morning leading to the grand finale at 2.00pm.
From 27th April – 4th May, resort will be decorated orange throughout and change into celebration mode for the infamous Dutch Week! This annual tradition celebrates the birthday of the Queen in Holland (Koninginnedag) and sees thousands of people arrive each year for a week of skiing and musical festivities…
APOTHEOSE DAYS…to mark the end of this winter, Val Thorens has put into place one final promotional period to entice those looking for one last ride on the slopes before next season. “APOTHEOSE DAYS” offers great prices on accommodation with numerous events in place for all of you spring ski lovers…live music concerts every night, sports tournaments, bouncy castles, trampolines outside on the snow, fireworks, ski shows and races, giant picnics….and much more!! Don’t miss the vertical kilometer upto the Péclet summit either on 8th May – watch participants either run up (on the snow!) or climb on touring skis and see who makes it in the best time. Either way it’s quite a feat and will make for exciting viewing!
The final event of the season this year is OPEN SNOW GOLF on 4th May. This is an official round in the French Street Golf Pro Tour Championship where in teams of 3, players will attempt a round of golf on the pistes of Val Thorens…
