According to the 2016 International Report on Snow & Mountain Tourism released by Vanat, three French resorts rank in top 10 of the World's most popular ski destinations.

La Plagne comes out at number 1, Les Arcs at number 4 and Val Thorens at number 8, from a possible 66 countries contained in the report. These rankings come from the average annual skier visits to these destinations, averaged out over the last five seasons.

In terms of popular skiing countries, the USA remains the country with the largest number of days skiing in the world with 55.7 million, Austria comes in second with 51.6 million and France not far behind with 55.1 million ski days.

The Alps still hold the lion's share of the market though, with 43% market share compared to 21% in the USA and 11% in Western Europe.
