A ski tourer who was touring with a friend on the Le glacier de l'aiguille de Péclet yesterday, unfortunately fell 7m into a crevasse.

Details are scant, however the rescue team from CRS were able to recover the skier. It's unclear at this stage as to whether or not the person sustained injuries, or the nationality of the skiers.

Spring conditions have definitely arrived, and therefore snow bridges over crevasses have naturally become weaker. This accident happened a little before 10am, when you'd expect that the snow would be firmer, however it sadly wasn't in this case.

If you're heading onto glacier terrain be prepared with a harness and ice screws, a transceiver and the necessary experience to deal with a situation like this should it occur.
