Val Thorens Seasonnaire Killed in an Avalanche Yesterday
Sad news as the body of a French seasonnaire was found in an avalanche
A 30 year old female French snowboarder was recovered dead from the debris of an avalanche late yesterday morning in the Boimint area of Val Thorens.
The alarm was raised by her place of work when she failed to arrive for her shift.
It is thought that she had triggered the avalanche herself in a particularly steep and rocky off piste area, and although it appears she was wearing a transceiver, it was switched off. Pisteurs found her body in 80cm of snow.
Two separate slides were reported yesterday in off piste sectors, and the avalanche bulletin remains on high 3/5 today.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this terrible time.
