Val Thorens Activity Review: 19th July 2012

What to do in Val Thorens in the summer

After a bit of rainy start, the sun seems to be back and summer is in full swing in Val Thorens…

There are a variety of activities going on in resort and plenty to do for all ages and abilities. With the Carte Multi-loisirs available at the sport’s centre, you have unlimited access to over 20 different activities throughout the valley (aqua clubs, tennis, fitness, archery, fun park…) - all this for just 39€ per adult per week. (Val Thorens, les Ménuires and Saint Martin de Belleville are all covered and children’s prices are also available.) Find out more about summer lift pass options here.

For any mountain biking fans, the Alps really are the place to be during the summer….the valley has 21 different bike tracks to offer with 120km of rideable terrain. Bike through different resorts and alpine villages, beside rivers or along the top of numerous mountain ledges…the valley caters for all abilities ; beginner, intermediate and advanced. Don't worry if you aren’t equipped for a full biking experience as there are plenty of hire shops in resort where you can rent bikes, body armour and helmets.

For those who are looking for something a little more sedentary to fill their days, the walks throughout the valley are endless and cover some really stunning ground. You can do these independently or hire a local guide from one of the adventure companies in resort.

Two walks I would recommend in Val Thorens from my outing last weekend are Le circuit des lacs – a nice easy walk, suitable for the whole family. The full track will take roughly 75 minutes to walk and takes you around three different lakes (see photo Circuit des lacs) and the Lac de la Portette – this walk is a little harder, with the last 10 minutes climbing up before arriving at the lake. It took approximately 2.5 hours at a reasonably relaxed pace (with all important swimming time for the dog included) and the small track which winds back down into resort is so beautiful it really is worth the effort!

Although renowned for its unbeatable ski domain in the winter, Val Thorens has something for everybody during the summer season. Check out other summer activities that are available and keep an eye on our What's on Calendar for the latest events.
