Courchevel Snow Report: 7th December 2011

Skiing in fresh powder in Courchevel

featured in Snow report Author Simon Reeves, Updated

For those old enough to remember, in the words of Esther Phillips’ hit record, ‘What a difference a day makes’. Just 24 hours....

Well the difference is SNOW and lots of it.

We’ve had a huge dump and the Three Valleys is knee deep in the fluffy stuff. The powder hounds will be out in force come the weekend that's for sure. Today Courchevel has opened the Verdons piste to allow early bird skiers to find their feet again and they were rewarded with great on piste skiing and knee deep powder at the side.

It has been snowing hard constantly since Monday morning and, at the moment, shows no sign of letting up. Further lift opening is expected by the weekend.

An excellent lunch was had at the new brasserie, Le Chabotte, at the Chabichou hotel; a stylish and contemporary addition to Courchevel dining.

Cold temperatures are forecast to remain into next week boding well for a good start to the season.
