Fantastic March conditions in the Three Valleys

Clear skies, powder and sunny days ahead

Wow, wow and wow! Today feels like a real treat in the Three Valleys, happy skiers galore. After a couple weeks of what can be described as ‘meh’ weather with a mix of rain, snow, cloud and bad visibility today was certainly a day not to miss.

The snow seems to have secretly piled up and with clear skies there were fresh tracks all over the Three Valleys.

The rise in temperature was also a pleasant surprise meaning that the terraces were ram jammed today. We headed for a coffee stop at Chez Pepe Nicolas this morning and it seemed everyone else had made the same decision.

With the new piste now allowing access to this restaurant at the base of Val Thorens if you are wanting to stop for lunch then I would definitely recommend booking. They have a pretty professional operation in place having to selectively allocate tables for those just wanting drinks as they were fully booked for the lunch sitting. Having only previously been able to eat inside at the newly refurbished building it was great to sit out on the terrace. They have built some fantastic benches which look straight out onto the mountain with a table top in front which is suitable for both drinks and food.

Visiting in the day also meant we were able to have a look in their new shop showcasing some lovely Chez Pepe products such as hand knitted hats and cosy throws. Vacating the table just before 1pm it was time to terrace hop up to Reberty for a quick ski lunch at the old sunny favourite ‘La Ferme’. The goggle tan is now underway.

Pistes are in excellent condition at the moment. So much so that in the ski shop this morning they seemed to think that it was ‘the’ week of the season. It does not seem that today was a one-off either with the forecast showing low temperatures and sunny days ahead, which make for perfect days on the mountain.

It appears that this season has been functioning in reverse with January being incredibly mild and lacking heavy snowfall and now we have lots of snow and low temperatures. March skiing is normally a time for skiing in a t-shirt and it looks like those kind of ski days will have to be put on hold for the time being. With Easter arriving earlier than normal this season it looks like with another UK holiday on the horizon then there is still plenty of good skiing to be had so do not pack those skis away just yet!
