Fresh powder in the whole of the Belleville valley

Plenty of fresh snow this week with a few days of sunshine ahead

Well it has been snowing, snowing and snowing some more! The days of sunshine keep getting pushed further back on the forecast and we have woken up to snowflakes all weekend. With higher temperatures the previous two weeks, a new blanket of the white stuff has descended making for a very snowy March.

The recent snowfall was well timed for my two little visitors this weekend who were coming to stay for their first ever ski holiday. The snow I ordered in time for my niece and nephews visit arrived bang on time and made for two very happy little skiers, sledgers and snowman builders!

As my sister was only visiting for the weekend I recommended that the family opt for a private ski lesson and it worked out perfectly. New Generation ski school were a great choice with the instructor, Sylvia, being really flexible to the groups varied requirements. The two youngest were aged 7 years and 9 years who had never skied previously were flying down the slope after the first two hours! The parents were also able to progress and were able to experience it all as a family which was fantastic.

The first lesson scheduled for Saturday was meant to take place in Les Menuires but due to the combination of heavy snow on the roads, an accident involving a bus and changeover traffic, we re-located to St Martin de Belleville. The first lesson then took place at the deep end learning the basics in fresh powder!

The beginner area in St Martin is quite small however as it was a Saturday and with the heavy snow the family had the area all to themselves. After a quick hot chocolate stop they were enthusiastic to get back on the skis at which point the sun decided to peek it’s way out of the clouds. My niece was not happy about this development and was very panicky that this meant the snow would melt! After some reasurement that the neige was going nowhere, this break in the snowfall meant we could all enjoy a picnic in the sunshine with some seats made out of fresh snow.

The following day the lesson was able to go ahead as scheduled up in Les Menuires and the group made fantastic progress, really impressive indeed and a true credit to the instructor, who was able to assist all the different ages and levels in the family. Unfortunately they were not able to head up the chairlift as hoped due to large Sunday morning queues at the ski pass office. The lesson remained in the beginner area and this may have been a good option in the end meaning that after the weekend they were all confident having picked up the basics and were happy to come back again next time to progress onto the pistes.

We had a great lunch at Le Capricorne in Les Menuires, an afternoon sledging at Roc n bob and then a quick swim at the sports centre before two tired young ones were ready to head home after an action packed day. Thanks to the lesson with New Generation all the family were eager to make sure that a ski holiday now features in the winter holiday calendar, success!

Yesterday was a chilly but sunny delight and today we have yet more snow. The forecast this week looks like this just until midweek, when conditions will clear up and everyone can get out there to enjoy the powder and actually see where they are skiing!

It's looking like it is going to be a great last few weeks of the season.
