Spring Has Sprung
Sunny Skies and Empty Pistes
Another fantastic week - it really has been the winter season we dreamed of!
We seem to be comfortably cruising towards the end of the season now. Conditions are pretty incredible for mid-April, and there appears to be a great mix of good skiing conditions and sunny skies to relax and enjoy al fresco lunches on alpine terraces.
Snow Report
With massive snowfalls over the first 2 weeks of April, the last month of the season is shaping up to be pretty special! The season's characteristic has been significant drops in temperature, snow and then massive spikes in temperature. So although we had +50cm over a couple of falls this month, the powder was spectacular for a day but was quite wet and heavy almost immediately afterwards.
Let's talk about Easter and spring skiing. Whilst there are bottle-neck queues at ski school meeting points as they begin, the pistes are very quiet once you are off the lift. On the other hand, the restaurants feel busy, so I think everyone is just in "beers-in-the-sun" mode. And who can blame them?
Snow Forecast
The temperatures are above zero, and there is rain in the forecast for the coming few days. However, it has stayed quite bright - whilst overcast! So visibility hasn't been too bad. It does look like temperatures might drop one more time next week with a final snowfall, but the jury is out on that right now!
Jen's Top Tips
- Conditions will be more challenging, so low light lenses can make all the difference. If you've got them, wear them!
- Head to the runs that play through the trees (or buildings!) when it's snowing. They often give you some shelter and better visibility.
- Although it will be snowing, it's not necessarily cold. So think waterproof but thin layers.
- With weather conditions being a little more erratic, keep an eye on your route home. It is too easy to take a wrong turn and end up a long way from where you want to be!
